Help Heather Rebuild
In the aftermath of a devastating house fire, our friend Heather Doherty lost her home and virtually everything she owned.
Heather made it out safely with Harley, her late son Delta’s dog, but the fire left behind an enormous amount of damage and a very uncertain road forward. Heather was uninsured, which means there is no insurance settlement coming to cover what was lost or to take care of the work that still needs to be done.
For many people in Roncesvalles, Heather is a familiar face. She ran Maggie’s Farm in the neighbourhood for roughly 15 years and has been part of this community for a long time. Now, her friends, neighbours and Toronto music community are coming together for her.
The GoFundMe was created to help Heather with the very practical costs that started almost immediately after the fire. Donations are helping pay for temporary housing and basic necessities after losing nearly everything, as well as the ongoing work at the house.
There is still an enormous cleanup ahead. Funds will help with rubble removal, mould remediation and necessary electrical and plumbing work as Heather tries to figure out what can be saved and what happens next.
The benefit show and this shop are part of that same effort, but you don’t have to buy anything to help.
If you would rather put your money directly toward Heather’s recovery, you can donate through the GoFundMe. Every contribution, whether it’s $5, $20 or considerably more, adds to what we can collectively do for her.
And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing the fundraiser helps too. Send it to a friend. Post it on your socials. Pass it along to someone who remembers Maggie’s Farm or knows Heather from the neighbourhood.
This isn’t about replacing everything that was lost. Some things simply can’t be replaced. It’s about making the next few months a little more manageable and giving Heather some room to figure out what comes next.
If you can help, please do.
